(OTTAWA, KS) The Franklin County Historical Society announces its second annual “Glorious Fourth” event on Sunday, July 4, at City Park at 8:00 am. The activities resemble an authentic Fourth of July celebration from the era of Territorial Kansas, 1854-60. There will be music and a reading of the Declaration of Independence by a number of citizens. The National Anthem will be sung by Candy Wasser, and FCHS director Deborah Barker will offer some memories of Independ-ence Day in Peoria, Kansas, in 1860—one hundred and fifty years ago. A pioneer breakfast of corn cakes and syrup will be served with coffee.
The Dietrich Cabin will be 151 years old this year, and souvenir Christmas ornaments and tee-shirts will be available for sale. Visitors are reminded to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. For more information call 242-1232. |
